NIOSH Radiation Dose Reconstruction Program
Division of Compensation Analysis and Support (DCAS)
NIOSH created DCAS in 2001 to estimate work related radiation exposure (dose reconstruction) for certain workers with cancer who filed claims under Part B of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000 (the Act/EEOICPA). Part B is a portion of the Act that provides compensation of $150,000 and medical benefits to employees (or their survivors) for illness caused by exposure to radiation, beryllium, and silicosis during their employment at DOE, its contractor, or subcontractor facilities.
NIOSH Dose Reconstruction Topics
Probability of Causation
Likelihood a worker's cancer was caused by work-related exposure to ionizing radiation
Special Exposure Cohort
Category of employees that allows eligible claims to be compensated without a dose reconstruction
Residual Contamination
Radioactive material or beryllium that remains at a work site after nuclear weapons production ended
