Public Health 101 Series

The Public Health 101 Series is a set of courses that provides an introduction to public health and covers the sciences essential to public health practice. The fundamental scientific components span topics in epidemiology, public health informatics and surveillance, health economics, public health laboratory science, and related fields.

This series is designed for

• Public health professionals who have not had formal training in a particular core area or who would like a refresher
• Persons new to public health
• Public health educators and instructors
• Persons interested in pursuing public health careers

The courses are offered in different formats for use by learners and instructors.

Available Formats

Slide Presentation

The PowerPoint slide presentation format was created for instructors or presenters to use in a group learning setting. A presenter or instructor with content knowledge may customize the slides. Talking points are included in the comments section of the slides. A PDF version is also available for download.

E-learning Course

The e-learning version of the courses are appropriate for learners interested in an interactive experience. The e-learning format includes exercises to check knowledge while taking the course online.

Quick Learn Lessons

Each lesson is a short e-learning module that takes no more than 20 minutes to complete. Lessons are also accessible from mobile devices. (Quick-Learn Lessons are not currently available for all courses.)

Webinar

The webinar is a recording of the slide presentation delivered by a CDC subject matter expert. The webinar format is appropriate for individual learning but is also a useful option for instructors who wish to show it in a group learning setting. Instructors may also direct learners to view a webinar as part of a larger course, curriculum, or training. (A webinar is not currently available for every course.)
