CDC Situation Awareness
The Situation Awareness Section (SA) mission is to improve Public Health response and situation awareness by integrating and managing critical information, implementing knowledge management capabilities and processes to support CDC emergency response operations. Strengthen Public Health information sharing between CDC, Federal, State, and local entities in monitoring, collecting, analyzing, and developing critical information to support response actions and produce data, information, and visualization information products supporting a User Definable Operating Picture.
The SA Section
- Improve Public Health response by collecting, analyzing, and producing critical information on worldwide "All Hazard" events to support CDC International and National response operations
- Implement and integrate knowledge management capabilities to support CDC Incident Management Structure (IMS) response operations and provide interoperable, secure, and adaptable systems for validating information to satisfy the CDC Director's Critical Information Requirements (DCIR)
- Maintain the external SA Web-Page, and collaboration sites and internal Preparedness and Response Dashboard, Data-Wall, and Emergency Operation Management System (EOMS) to provide the latest dynamic visualization and integrate transformational information technologies through a collaborative and synchronized knowledge sharing environment
- Ensure processes, tools, and information are available to support the IMS and provide leadership the knowledge to observe, orient/comprehend, and make informed decisions based on actionable knowledge, and extrapolate or predict future actions based on empirical data and science
- Develop open-sourced web-enabled interactive information sharing capabilities including digital data repositories, information sources, registries and social media
- Coordinate the collection and delivery of bi-directional information sharing to support emergency response among CDC, Federal, State, and Local entities
- Collect, coordinate, process and analyze disparate data to produce actionable decision based knowledge products to support operational needs within a User Defined Operational Picture (UDOP)
- Collaborate with all IMS sections to compile comprehensive reports, coordinate scientific requirements and develop briefings to keep the CDC Director informed and meet information sharing requirements with public health stakeholders and communities of practice
- Collaborate with internal and external agencies to identify new processes, technology, and procedures to make information visible, accessible, and understandable when and where needed to accelerate knowledge-based decision making
- Develop and coordinates standard operating procedures (SOP), memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and training to support information/knowledge management
- Define and document information exchange requirements (IERs)
- Create operational procedures, knowledge management applications, databases, and automated data and visualization tools to improve the sharing and dissemination of critical public health situational awareness
