Risk Assessment and Management Strategies: Breast Cancer in Young Women
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, the American Cancer Society, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network provide recommendations to help health care providers and patients understand their risk and decide whether a preventive service is right for individual patients with an increased risk of breast cancer. Tips from these organizations, summarized here, can help health care providers identify young women who may have a higher risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer and detect early onset breast cancer among women who are at high risk. The recommendations are based on current peer-reviewed evidence for screening, counseling, and testing.
