Nancy Habarta is the Associate Director for Evaluation for CDC’s Division of Public Health Information Dissemination (DPHID), Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS). She began her federal service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zimbabwe in 1998 which motivated her to earn her master degree in public health from Emory University in 2004. Nancy began her career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an ORISE fellow at The Guide to Community Preventive Services performing systematic reviews on worksite health promotion and cancer-related interventions to determine the effectiveness of population-based public health interventions.

Upon completion of the fellowship, Nancy worked as a contractor for  CDC as part of the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team in the Global AIDS Program (GAP) to build capacity for M&E within focus countries, develop the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief indicators, and conduct evaluation activities in a number of countries.

In 2008, Nancy transitioned into a full time position at the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, where her duties included performing monitoring and evaluation activities and quantitative data analyses with national level HIV counselling and testing data. She has most recently worked as behavioral scientist as a lead researcher and evaluator on four HIV prevention communication campaigns that target high risk groups. Her professional interests include process monitoring, program and performance evaluation and health disparities.

Nancy earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Brandeis University and a master of public health degree in international health from Emory University. She also has “many life lessons” from her Peace Corps experience in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
