The Minnesota CHW core curriculum is offered through several community colleges and other post-secondary schools and consists of 14 credit hours, including a capstone internship experience at the end of the program. Each curriculum component begins with a focus on the CHW's role in that topic area.
The majority of the curriculum relates to core competencies, paralleling those we discussed earlier. The courses are:
- Role, Advocacy, and Outreach
- Organization and Resources
- Teaching and Capacity Building
- Legal and Ethical Responsibilities
- Coordination and Documentation
- Communication and Cultural Competency
The seventh course, “health promotion competencies,” is described on the next slide.
