Currently Funded Stigma Research Projects
The CDC Epilepsy Program supports one project called Testing New Strategies to Improve Attitudes Toward Epilepsy on stigma associated with epilepsy.
The CDC’s Prevention Research Center at Case-Western Reserve University is conducting this project to examine myths and negative attitudes about epilepsy in young adults aged 18-29 years, and to develop and test new communication strategies to change negative attitudes about epilepsy. These new communication strategies will be on the basis of stigma and decision-theory research, and related disciplines. Researchers will conduct this study with input from community members, both with and without epilepsy.
