* Among students aged 5--17 years. Based on response to the question, "During the past 12 months, that is, since [reference date 12 months ago], about how many days did [name of sample child] miss school because of illness or injury?" Estimates are based on household interviews of a sample of the civilian, non-institutionalized U.S. population.
In 2006, an estimated 29% of students aged 5--17 years never missed a day of school during the preceding 12 months because of illness or injury. The majority (56%) missed 1--5 days, 10% missed 6--10 days, and 5% missed >11 days of school. SOURCE: Bloom B, Cohen RA.
