National Partner Organizations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) partners with several national organizations to deliver programs and opportunities for people with disabilities. Together, we have developed information and resource centers, health outreach campaigns, policy initiatives, and training for health professionals, people with disabilities, caregivers and organizations.

American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD)

The American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and wellness of people with disabilities and to reducing disability health disparities. AAHD contributes to national, state, and local efforts to prevent additional health complications among people with disabilities and to identify effective intervention strategies. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education, advocacy, and public awareness.

American Public Health Association (APHA)

The American Public Health Association (APHA) Disability Section focuses on issues important to public health within the community of people with disabilities. APHA aims to protect all Americans, their families, and their communities from preventable, serious health threats and strives to ensure that community-based health promotion and disease prevention activities and preventive health services are universally accessible in the United States. APHA represents a broad array of health professionals and others who care about their own health and the health of their communities.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD)

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is a membership organization that supports and promotes a national network of university-based interdisciplinary programs. AUCD partners with CDC to strengthen the nation’s capacity to carry out public health activities in the areas of birth defects, developmental disabilities, and disease prevention for people living with disabilities.

Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Paralysis Resource Center

The Paralysis Resource Center promotes the health and well-being of people living with a spinal cord injury, mobility impairment, and paralysis by providing comprehensive information, resources and referral services..

Disability Research and Dissemination Center (DRDC)

Disability Research and Dissemination Center (DRDC) identifies and funds research in the fields of birth defects, disabilities, human development, and blood disorders; fosters training of health and public health professionals through fellowships; and shares knowledge and opportunities through a variety of progressive media. DRDC is housed by the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine, and is an alliance among the USC School of Medicine (administration and research), State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY Upstate) (training and evaluation), and the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) (dissemination).

National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is the national organization representing local health departments. NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities by promoting national policy, developing resources and programs, seeking health equity, and supporting effective local public health practice and systems.
