Clinical Chemistry
The Clinical Chemistry Branch (CCB) develops and improves methods for assessing disease status associated with and the risk for selected chronic diseases. It provides laboratory support for influenza and selected infectious disease projects.
Emergency Response
The Emergency Response Branch (ERB) develops and performs unique laboratory tests to assess chemical exposure during a public health emergency or terrorist event.
Inorganic and Radiation Analytical Toxicology
The Inorganic and Radiation Analytical Toxicology (IRAT) Branch develops methods, and analyzes elemental metals such as mercury and arsenic and supports the public health response to radiologic threat agents.
Newborn Screening and Molecular Biology
The Newborn Screening and Molecular Biology Branch (NSMBB) develops analytical methods to measure substances in dried blood spots (DBSs) and produces certified DBS quality-control and reference materials to ensure accuracy for newborn screening tests.
Nutritional Biomarkers
The Nutritional Biomarkers Branch (NBB) develops methods, and analyzes essential nutrients such as vitamins, nonessential nutrients, and bioactive dietary compounds that are responsible for changes in health status.
Organic Analytical Toxicology
The Organic Analytical Toxicology (OAT) Branch develops analytical methods to measure synthetic and naturally occurring organic environmental chemicals in people such as biphenyl ethers, environmental phenols, phthalates, and pesticides.
Tobacco and Volatiles
The Tobacco and Volatiles Branch (TVB) develops methods and measures addictive and toxic substances in tobacco products, tobacco smoke and other emissions. It develops methods, and analyzes samples for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene.
