2011 Restricted-Use Linked Mortality Files

As with the public-use version of these files, the restricted-use mortality files are available for 1986-2009 NHIS, NHANES III, 1999-2010 NHANES, and LSOA II. The restricted-use files do not limit the availability of the death certificate data for adult participants, and data were not subjected to perturbation techniques. In addition, the restricted-use files include detailed mortality information and mortality follow-up for children.

Data Access

Due to confidentiality requirements, the Restricted-use Linked Mortality Files are accessible only through the NCHS Research Data Center (RDC). All interested researchers must submit a research proposal to the RDC. Please see the RDC web site for instructions on submitting a proposal (RDC website).

To avoid risk of participant re-identification researchers are not allowed to use Public-use and Restricted-use Linked Mortality Files, together, in the RDC.
