CONSTRUCTION SAFETY AND HEALTH
National Construction Center
CPWR — The Center for Construction Research and Training [CPWR ] was awarded NIOSH’s National Construction Center cooperative agreement for 2014-2019 through an extramural competition. NIOSH intends for the Center to directly link to the diverse construction community, to serve as a leader in applied construction research, and to diffuse and disseminate effective interventions in the construction industry. As the National Construction Center, CPWR’s internal researchers and consortium of academic partners conduct research to identify causes of and solutions for safety and health risks and explore emerging hazards workers face on the job, targeting several NORA Construction goals, in order to prevent injuries, illnesses and deaths in the construction industry. Through partnerships with industry stakeholders and its extensive network of safety and health trainers, CPWR bridges the gap between the research and what happens on construction sites. Established in 1990, CPWR has served as the National Construction Center since NIOSH began its construction safety and health research initiative. Based in Silver Spring, MD, CPWR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created by the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO.
