Evaluation of Air Cleaning and Monitoring Equipment Used in Recirculation Systems
April 1981
DHHS (NIOSH) Publication Number 81-113
Pilot scale air cleaners and monitors are evaluated to determine their performance characteristics, maintenance requirements, and reliability for use in a recirculating exhaust system. Evaluation criteria for recirculation system components are developed for system components installed at a welding training center and tested on a welding process exhaust. The system components subject to evaluation include an electrostatically augmented fabric filter, electrostatic precipitator, aspirated cartridge filter, four extractive type particulate air monitors, three extractive ozone monitors, and a safety monitoring filter. Air cleaner and air monitor costs and calculations are included.
