TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. is equal to 21 and <61°C
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water in large amounts, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Sore throat. Cough. Shortness of breath. Burning sensation behind breastbone. Laboured breathing. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
Closed system and ventilation.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer immediately for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Pain. Blisters. Serious skin burns. al LD50=582-633 mg/kg bw ere is noneed for that
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer immediately for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Burns .
Safety goggles , Face shield and eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
Rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible). Refer immediately for medical attention.
•INGESTION Burning sensation in the throat and chest. Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Vomiting. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer immediately for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Evacuate danger area! Personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. Remove all ignition sources. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Ventilation. Collect leaking liquid in sealable plastic containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place.
Fireproof. Separated from strong oxidants, strong acids, organics , food and feedstuffs . Cool. Well closed. Store only in original container. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.
Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides . The substance is a medium strong base. Reacts with strong oxidants , acids and organic compounds causing fire and explosion hazard. Attacks metal, some forms of plastic, rubber

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 5 ppm as TWA, 15 ppm as STEL (skin) A4 (not classifiable as a human carcinogen); (ACGIH 2008).
EU OEL: 5 ppm as TWA, 10 ppm as STEL (EU 2002).
momentary value of 10 ppm (30 mg/m39 should not be exceeded
OSHA PEL: TWA 25 ppm (75 mg/m3)
NIOSH REL: TWA 10 ppm (30 mg/m3) ST 25 ppm (75 mg/m3)
NIOSH IDLH: 200 ppm See: 109897

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation may cause lung oedema, but only after initial corrosive effects on eyes and/or airways have become manifest. Inhalation may cause pneumonitis. Exposure at high levels may result in severe swelling of the throat. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Lungs may be affected by repeated or prolonged exposure to the vapour. The substance may have effects on the teeth , resulting in dental erosion

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.

N O T E S

The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Do NOT take working clothes home.
