TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE

ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS

PREVENTION

FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible.
NO open flames.
Powder, alcohol-resistant foam, water spray, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 65°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 65°C use a closed system, ventilation.

EXPOSURE

•INHALATION Cough. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Headache. Nausea. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Wheezing.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Dry skin. Redness.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
•EYES Redness. Pain.
Safety goggles, face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Burning sensation. Headache. Nausea. Unconsciousness.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL

STORAGE

PACKAGING & LABELLING

Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Wash away remainder with plenty of water. (extra personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours).
Separated from strong oxidants, strong acids, food and feedstuffs.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. TURNS RED OR BROWN ON EXPOSURE TO LIGHT AND AIR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance polymerizes under the influence of acids. Reacts violently with strong oxidants or strong acids causing fire and explosion hazard.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 10 ppm; 40 mg/m3 (as TWA), 15 ppm; 60 mg/m3 as (STEL) (skin) (ACGIH 1997).
MAK: 10 ppm, 41 mg/m3;
Peak limitation category: I(1);
skin absorption (H); (DFG 2006).
OSHA PEL: TWA 50 ppm (200 mg/m3)
NIOSH REL: TWA 10 ppm (40 mg/m3) ST 15 ppm (60 mg/m3) skin
NIOSH IDLH: 75 ppm See: 98000

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
Tear drawing. The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Exposure far above the OEL could cause lowering of consciousness.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
The liquid defats the skin. The substance may have effects on the central nervous system.
