FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Water spray, foam, powder, carbon dioxide .
EXPLOSION

In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Sore throat. Burning sensation. Shortness of breath. Laboured breathing. Unconsciousness.
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer immediately for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Pain. Skin burns.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer immediately for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Burns
Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
Rinse with plenty of water (remove contact lenses if easily possible). Refer immediately for medical attention.
•INGESTION Sore throat. Burns in mouth and throat. Abdominal pain. Vomiting. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give one or two glasses of water to drink. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer immediately for medical attention.

Personal protection: particulate filter respirator adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance and filter respirator for inorganic gases and vapours adapted to the airborne concentration of the substance. Sweep spilled substance into plastic containers then remove to safe place.
Fireproof. Dry. Keep in a well-ventilated room. Separate from acids and strong oxidants.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The solution in water is a strong base, it reacts violently with acid and is corrosive. The substance decomposes on heating producing sulfur oxides . The substance decomposes on contact with water producing hydrogen sulfide . Attacks metal. Reacts with strong oxidants to produce sulfur oxides (See ICSC 0165) .

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
Serious local effects by all routes of exposure. at 96mg/kg; 150 mg/kg; 200 mg/kg. Dermal LD50 mouse 200 mg/kg. Corrosive so no route selected.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Corrosive on ingestion. The substance hydrolyses rapidly on exposure to moisture releasing H2S : see also ICSC 0165

UN 2949 refers to SODIUM HYDROSULFIDE, hydrated with not less than 25% water of crystallization; Hazard Class 8 (corrosive), Packing Group II . Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
