Radiation and Worker Health Advisory Board to Meet in Idaho, Discuss Several Work Sites and Hear NIOSH Findings

The Advisory Board on Radiation and Worker Health (the Advisory Board) will meet August 9-10 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The Advisory Board will discuss:
- The site profile for the Pinellas Plant, Pinellas, Fla.
Special Exposure Cohort (SEC) petitions for the following work sites:
- Area IV of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory in Calif.
- Argonne National Laboratory-West, Scoville, Idaho
- Blockson Chemical Co., Jolliet, Ill.
- Idaho National Laboratory, Scoville, Idaho
- Savannah River Site, Aiken, S.C.
- Westinghouse Electric Co., Bloomfield, N.J.
The two-day meeting will take place at the Residence Inn by Marriott located at 635 West Broadway, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The full agenda and discussion times are located at www.cdc.gov/niosh/ocas/pubmtgs.html/.
It is uncertain whether the Advisory Board will vote to make any recommendations concerning the SEC petitions.
The public comment session will begin at 5 PM on Tuesday, August 9.
The Advisory Board makes recommendations about SEC class additions to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), as outlined in the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) of 2000. The DHHS Secretary makes final decisions concerning SEC worker-class additions. The Department of Labor handles individual worker claims and decides whether individual workers should be included in the SEC.
