Today, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) launched a new web resource for researchers and stakeholders in the occupational health community. The “NIOSH Data and Statistics Gateway” (www.cdc.gov/niosh/data) is a scientific data repository where NIOSH-generated public-use research datasets valuable for the public, industry, and the scientific community are available for download. The Gateway also provides convenient access to surveillance, statistics and other collections of NIOSH data focused on occupational safety and health.

“Data is the foundation for NIOSH’s work to address the occupational safety and health needs for the nation, driving our safety and health research priorities and recommendations,” said NIOSH Director John Howard, M.D. “Today’s launch of the NIOSH Data and Statistics Gateway is an important step in providing these data resources to safety and health researchers and practitioners for use in their critical efforts to keep the nation’s workforce safe and healthy.”

Currently the Gateway houses several historical public-use research datasets and surveillance data. The datasets are accompanied by a description of the data collection methods and are available for download. The site also provides a listing with links to other NIOSH data resources such as NIOSH investigations, hazardous materials databases, tests and measurements resources, and links to product databases. In addition to the NIOSH resources, the site also provides links to data resources from other federal and non-federal partners.

NIOSH hopes the new site will benefit occupational safety and health researchers and professionals, as well as the general public, in their own work. The NIOSH Data and Statistics Gateway can be accessed by going to http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/data/.

NIOSH is the federal agency that conducts research and makes recommendations for preventing work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths. For more information about our work visit http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/.
