The most commonly reported species from clinical sources are:
- Nocardia nova
- Nocardia farcinica
- Nocardia cyriacigeorgica
- Nocardia brasiliensis
- Nocardia abscessus
More than 40 valid Nocardia species are considered clinically relevant.
