Description
This course is designed to educate clinicians about Chagas disease in the United States. Lesson 1 covers basic epidemiology, including a detailed life cycle of Trypanosoma cruzi (the causative agent) and risk factors for acquiring the disease. Lesson 2 discusses phases and manifestations of Chagas disease. Lesson 3 covers laboratory diagnosis, clinical evaluation, and treatment options. This course also includes 3 patient scenarios, to present an opportunity to think critically about diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease.

Accreditation Statements
For Continuing Medical Education for Physicians (CME):
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this educational activity for a maximum of (1.25) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Continuing Education designated for Non-Physicians:
Non-physicians will receive a certificate of participation.
Continuing Nursing Education for Nurses (CNE):
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Instructions for Completing Posttest & Evaluation Online
- View the Chagas Disease: What U.S. Clinicians Need to Know course online.
- Once you completed the course, go to CDC Training and Continuing Education Online at www.cdc.gov/tceonline.
- If you have not registered as a participant, click on new participant to create a user ID and password; otherwise click on participant login and login.
- If you have registered in this system before, please use the same login name and password. This will ensure an accurate transcript.
- Once you have logged in/registered, Click on search and keyword search for course WB1641.
- Click on the course. The course information page will come up. Scroll down to register here. Click on the type of CE credit that you would like to receive and then submit. Three demographic questions will come up. Complete the questions and then submit.
- From “Participant services,” click on “evaluations and tests”
- Answer the questions presented on posttest (all answers are in the course material).
- To receive continuing education credit, you must answer all of the questions.
- Some questions have more than one answer. Questions with more than one answer will instruct you to “indicate all that are correct.”
- Complete the course evaluation.
- You will be able to immediately print your continuing education certificate from your personal transcript.
- A record of your completion will be located in the transcript and certificate section of your record.
