About This Image
This issue of Preventing Chronic Disease explores the intersection
of the spheres of public health and private business. Burdensome health
care costs, shrinking public health resources, and demands for more
health professionals in the business sector require new and creative
solutions. Public-private collaboration is a growing
strategy to improve the health, prosperity, and quality of life for the
American people. Combining the knowledge and expertise of public health
with the resources of the business sector means that mutual health
goals can be reached. This issue explores some of those
partnerships and discusses frankly the challenges and benefits of this
kind of collaboration.
The original artwork for this issue is influenced by the work of
Saul Bass, one of the most innovative and successful graphic artists of the
20th century. In addition to his work in the 1960s and 1970s designing
corporate logos for prominent companies such as United Airlines, Geffen
Records, Minolta, and the YMCA, Bass also produced memorable and
award-winning title sequences for a number of movies, including The Man
With the Golden Arm, West Side Story,
North by Northwest, It's a Mad, Mad,
Mad, Mad World, and Goodfellas.
