ORIGINAL RESEARCH — Volume 12 — May 21, 2015
This flowchart shows that the study began with 36,575 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) respondents aged ≥40 years in 2005 (n = 19,618) and 2010 (n = 16,957). Excluded were 10,511 respondents: respondents aged 40 to 49 who did not answer CRC family history question (n = 6,994) and respondents aged 40 to 49 with no family history of CRC (n = 3,517). This left 26,064 NHIS respondents eligible for CRC screening in 2005 (n = 13,731) and 2010 (n = 12,333). Of these, 2,470 were first-degree relatives of a CRC patient in 2005 (n = 1,346) and 2010 (n = 1,124); 10,454 were nonfirst-degree relatives of a CRC patient in 2005 (n = 5,349) and 2010 (n = 5,105); and 13,140 were respondents aged 50 or older who did not answer CRC family history question in 2005 (n = 7,036) or 2010 (n = 6,104).
