PRAMStat: Topic Availability in PRAMStat

Each PRAMS state has a unique PRAMS survey that includes questions on many important topics. In PRAMStat , some topics are not available for certain states and certain years because of variations in the PRAMS survey and completeness of data across states and over time.  The PRAMS survey consists of CORE questions, which are included by all participating states, and STANDARD questions, which are optional for states to include in their PRAMS surveys.  In cases where a PRAMStat indicator is derived from a standard question, it will only be available for the subset of states that included the question in their survey.

The PRAMS survey is revised approximately every four years.  When a survey is revised, some core topics are dropped and others are added.  In addition, states may change the standard questions included in their survey as part of the survey revision.   No rotation of questions is permitted within a survey period.   PRAMStat data are available for three survey periods:  2000–2003, 2004–2008, and 2009–2011.  Within each of these survey periods, the topics and the indicators within these topics remain unchanged.  However, across survey periods, the topics available in PRAMStat will differ, as will the available indicators within the topics.

Flu topics are available only if the 2009–2010 flu season dataset is selected as the “year.”  Flu indicators were collected by using a survey supplement that was implemented during the 2009–2010 flu season.
