What We Do

The Surveillance Data Platform is a CDC program to streamline public heath surveillance.
Launched in 2016, the Surveillance Data Platform (SDP) with Shared Services program is one of several initiatives
dedicated to making disease tracking more efficient through the use of cloud-based technology. This
cross-agency effort stems from a call from multiple stakeholders, including Congress, state public health leaders,
and federal advisory committees asking for the development of a new surveillance strategy. The Surveillance
Data Platform is one effort from CDC’s Surveillance Strategy. We’re working to improve public health
efficiency and accelerate decision-making by building a collaborative that

• Enhances public health’s ability to manage, share, and analyze data,
• Reduces unnecessary burden on internal and external data partners, and
• Improves efficiency in public health data usage and tracking across CDC.

Our vision is to empower public health decision making by providing unified, systems-level informatics solutions and to improve reporting efficiencies throughout the U.S. public health system.
