The following profiles provide an overview of syphilis morbidity in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The profiles consist of figures and tables of data on syphilis from the U.S. states and territories through 2008. These data are based on case reports from the 65 sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention project areas. Case report data are the foundation of STD surveillance systems, and are collected by state and local health departments.
