Navigation-Only Map (US)
Navigation-only maps allow users to navigate to content associated with specific locations on a United States (states and territories) or World (countries) map. Users can navigate to content for a location by selecting the location on the map (Viewports 4, 3, and 2 only) or using the drop-down menu. Navigation Maps can be used only for navigation purposes – they cannot be used to display numeric or categorical data.
When to Use
- You want to allow users to navigate to different pages by location, but have no data to display for the locations to be color-coded.
- All content associated with the locations are available as web pages on CDC.gov. Avoid using non-CDC and non-HTML document links.
When to Consider Something Else
- You have a moderate number of location-specific information – 15 or fewer locations would be linked. In this case, a simple listing would be usable and may be easier to manage.
- You want to display numeric or categorical data for the United States such as prevalence of a specific disease, case counts for an outbreak, or percentage of adults in a health program. See Data Maps.
Before inserting a navigation-only map into a page, you must build the reusable map content item. (From the WCMS content browser, click New Content and select Navigation-Only Map as the content type.) Completing this content type requires creation of a data file with the navigation URLs. For details on creating both US and world navigation-only maps, refer to the user guide [PDF - 285 KB].
Once you have created and saved the map content item, you can insert it into Visual Composer or a WYSIWYG body field.
