About CDC Office of Women’s Health

The Office of Women’s Health (OWH) promotes CDC evidence-based public health programs, research, policies, and strategies to improve the health and safety of women and girls. The Office serves as a focal point for women’s health and raises visibility on issues affecting the health and safety of women and girls. OWH collaborates with other federal agencies, national and professional organizations, associations, and groups to reach consumers, health professionals, researchers, and others that work with and serve women and girls. OWH was established in 1994 and authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010.

The CDC Office of Women’s Health:

• advises the CDC leadership on research, policy, practice, trends, and program needs and opportunities
• monitors progress toward meeting agency and national objectives
• supports evidence-based research and advances programs for public health action
• disseminates CDC resources and guidance
• represents the agency on cross-cutting issues
