People are eligible for a medical evaluation if they were in the New York City disaster area in Lower Manhattan and northwest parts of Brooklyn on September 11, 2001, or if they lived, worked, went to school or day care, or were otherwise in the area for some time afterward.
If the screening shows that you or your children have a condition covered by the WTC Health Program, the doctor will certify that. Everyone with a certification can enroll in the WTC Health Program, and will continue to receive medical monitoring and treatment at no cost. This program is funded by the federal government.
Step 1: Figure out if you are eligible
