Administration
- Type: Inhaled steroids, Corticosteroid
- Dosage Forms:
- Routes of Administration: inhalation, intranasal spray
- Common Trade Names: Qvar
Adult Dosing
- Asthma: 40 to 320 mcg by oral inhalation BID
- Rhinitis: 2 sprays (80 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Asthma, 6-11 yo: 40-80 mcg by oral inhalation BID
- Rhinitis, 4-11 yo: 1 spray (40 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily
Special Populations
- Pregnancy Rating: C
- Lactation risk: Infant risk minimal
- Renal dosing: no adjustment
- Hepatic dosing: no adjustment
Contraindications
- Allergy to class/drug
- Not to be used as primary treatment for acute asthma exacerbation
Adverse Reactions
Serious
- Secondary hypocortisolism
- Cataract, glaucoma
- Bronchospasm

- Headache

- Half-life: 0.3-3h
- Metabolism: Hepatic via CYP3A4
- Excretion: Mostly fecal
