Administration
- Type: Antibiotic, anti-acne
- Dosage Forms:
- Routes of Administration: topical, ophthalmic
- Common Trade Names:
Adult Dosing
- Bacterial eye infection: 1-2 drops in affected eye q2h or 0.5inch of ointment q3-4h
- Acne: apply 10% lotion BID
- Bacterial skin infection, seborrhea: wash affected areas with wash BID
Pediatric Dosing
- >2mo, ophthalmic: same as adult dose
- >12yo, topical/skin: same as adult dose
Special Populations
- Pregnancy Rating: C
- Lactation risk: Infant risk cannot be ruled out
- Renal dosing: no adjustment
- Hepatic dosing: no adjustment
Contraindications
- Allergy to class/drug

- SJS/TEN
- Agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia
- Hepatic necrosis

Mechanism of Action
- Bacteriostatic sulfonamide antibiotic: inhibits utilization of para-aminobenzoic acid and inhibits synthesis of bacterial dihydrofolic acid
