Administration
- Type: Diuretic

Adult Dosing
- Edema: 100-150 mg PO BID
- Hypertension: 50-100 mg PO daily or in 2 divided doses
Pediatric Dosing
Safety/efficacy not established
- 0.5-2 mg/kg PO BID, max daily dose 300mg
Special Populations
- Pregnancy Rating: C
- Lactation risk: Infant risk cannot be ruled out
- Renal dosing:
- GFR >10: use 12h dosing interval
- GFR <110 or creatinine >2.5: use not recommended
- Hepatic dosing: contraindicated in severe liver impairment
Contraindications
- Allergy to class/drug
- Anuria, severe renal dysfunction
- Hyperkalemia
- Concomitant use of antikaliuretic agents, potassium supplementation/salt substitutes, or other potassium-sparing agents
- Severe liver disease

- Hyperkalemia
- Azotemia, nephrotoxicity
- Jaundice
- Megaloblastic anemia
- Thrombocytopenia, purpura
- Anaphylaxis

- Hyperuricemia, electrolyte abnormalities

- Potassium-sparing diuretic: inhibits epithelial sodium channel in distal renal tubule
