Identify Teachable Moments With Patients
Brief discussions about the importance of ongoing care present teachable moments during which health care providers can help motivate patients to continue with care and/or make positive changes to improve their care.1, 2, 3 Although it may seem challenging to incorporate these conversations into clinical practice, evidence shows that these brief discussions can motivate patients to live longer, healthier lives and create trusting relationships between HIV care providers and their patients.
This section includes stories and perspectives from HIV care providers who have identified and leveraged teachable moments effectively to enhance their patients’ care. Health care providers can discover insights from these perspectives as well as adopt practice tips.
