How can I attend a CDC Public Health Grand Rounds (PHGR) session?
You are welcome to attend our monthly Grand Rounds. The sessions are open to CDC employees and the public. Sessions are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month and CDC staff and the public are welcome to attend in person.
Non-CDC staff must have prior security clearance. US citizens must submit a request to the Grand Rounds Team. A US state-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, US passport) is required. Non-US citizens must submit their requests 20 days prior to the session to the Grand Rounds Team, and additional information will be required.
How can I view the live webcast?
A live webcast will be available on our website. The link will be live five minutes before the presentation. View our sessions on our archive page at your convenience. Sessions are archived 3-4 days after each presentation.
Is Registration required to view Grand Rounds via the webcast?
Registration is not required.
Are the presentations archived?
Yes, all sessions are archived and posted to the Grand Rounds archive page 3-4 days after each presentation.
How do I get continuing education for viewing Grand Rounds?
You can receive free continuing education for Grand Rounds. All continuing education credit for Public Health Grand Rounds (PHGR) is issued online through the CDC/ATSDR Training and Continuing Education Online system. If you have questions, you can email Learner Support or call them at 1-800-41-TRAIN (1-800-418-7246). Those who view PHGR and wish to receive continuing education must complete the online seminar evaluation. Continuing education will be available for up to 2 years and 1 month after the initial offering. The course code for all PHGR sessions is PHGR10.
Are other scientific materials available for each Grand Rounds session?
In addition to the session, a reading list of scientific articles about each session are posted to the CDC library website the same week as the session (cdc.gov/library/sciclips). Follow-up articles about the session are published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) about 6-9 months after the session.
How can I get updates about future Grand Rounds sessions?
Stay connected by signing up for Grand Rounds email updates.
How are topics selected?
Each year, the Grand Rounds team invites CDC programs to submit topics for consideration through a “Call for Proposals.” Selections are based upon the timeliness of the proposed topic, its public health importance, and the ability to address the subject within the Grand Rounds format. Questions? You may send inquiries to the Grand Rounds Team.
What is involved in putting together a CDC Public Health Grand Rounds session?
Putting together a session is a collaborative process. Speakers may expect to commit up to 16 hours preparing slides that are readily understandable to the Grand Rounds audience. Speakers rehearse their talk with other speakers and offered comments and suggestions on how to revise their presentation. These rehearsals allow the key message to be consistent and coordinated, and to adhere to an allotted time frame.
