Employers and insurers can help make lifestyle change programs—like yours—available at no or low cost to participants by offering them as a covered health benefit.

Consider reaching out to employers and insurers in your area to encourage them to add a CDC-recognized lifestyle change program to their benefits packages.

This practice worked for a lifestyle change program provider in Kingsport, Tennessee, which expanded its existing partnership with a local employer to include coverage of the diabetes prevention program. The employer has also supported on-site screenings and promotional events for employees and their spouses.

Also consider asking employers to offer your lifestyle change program at their worksite. The department of water and power of a major metro city did so, and has even offered electronic fitness trackers as a reward for employees who complete the year-long program.

A program offered in a grocery store pharmacy had success recruiting participants through collaboration with the state employee health plan, which covered the lifestyle change program.
