HL7 Message Progress
HL7 messages are used by Eligible Hospitals as part of their ELR Meaningful Use requirements.
In 2013, 90% of ELR messages were HL7 formatted. Approximately 29% of the HL7 messages were in the 2.5.1 format (up from 22% in 2012); the rest were in the 2.3.1 format. 2.5.1 is the format needed for eligible hospitals to meet the reportable lab results public health objective for Meaningful Use.
For more information, see ELR Meaningful Use and Technical Standards.
