Technical Assistance

To date, 48 successful ELR TA projects spanning 28 jurisdictions have been completed.

Contact CDC regarding ELR: elr@cdc.gov.

“TA” (Technical Assistance) for ELR projects is available to all public health departments actively pursuing funded ELR objectives. ELC grantees may submit TA requests to the CDC ELR team using the request form [Word – 1 page]. Project requests must be approved by CDC before moving forward. If approved, the TA will be provided by APHL resources.

Benefits

ELR TA projects are small projects that advance ELR implementations in public health departments.

TA can help overcome targeted and some general obstacles to successful ELR implementations by a public health department.

Typical project requests include the following:

  • Perform technical assessment of existing ELR processing
  • Add ELR for a disease category
  • Add ELR for a public health, large commercial or hospital lab
  • Perform vocabulary mapping and other cross-cutting analysis to lay an infrastructure for ELR in a jurisdiction
  • Fine-tune existing routes or mappings to eliminate errors
  • Make changes to existing ELR in response to new surveillance, hospital, or laboratory systems, new software versions, or new state or federal regulations
  • Troubleshoot and resolve persistent challenging technical problems
  • Eliminate remaining manual intervention steps in mostly-automated data transmission and processing programs

There is no restriction on the number of ELR TA projects a single jurisdiction can apply for within a given time period.

The section immediately below discusses how to apply for ELR TA.

How To Apply

To apply for ELR TA, complete an ELR TA request form [Word – 1 page]. As noted on the form, submit the completed form to elr@cdc.gov. There is no restriction on the number of ELR TA projects a single jurisdiction can apply for.

After your request is submitted, it is evaluated by the CDC ELR team and the APHL ELR TA team. You should receive a response from APHL within two weeks. If the requested project is a good match for ELR TA, a resource is assigned to work with you on the project and a kick off meeting is scheduled.

If you are not sure if your project is a good match for ELR TA, please submit a request [Word – 1 page] so the ELR teams can analyze your project and let you know if it’s approved.

Progress
