Current Federal Employees

CDC global health programs are looking for qualified candidates now!

If you are a federal employee with career or career conditional status at the GS-13 level or above or you are in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps at an equivalent level, you may be qualified for an international assignment.

Applying for Jobs Overseas

CDC global health programs recently issued Open Continuous (OC) Vacancy Announcements to allow rapid recruitment and hiring of overseas assignees. These OC Vacancy Announcements are available in the links section below. Other overseas positions in additional job series are also posted as they become available at www.usajobs.gov. Please monitor the website for current openings.

OC Vacancy Announcements target applicants in four job titles: epidemiologist, public health advisor, health scientist (lab) and medical officer. Please read the directions carefully and fully answer every question. For more detailed information about the application process, review the presentation Applying for Work Overseas.

It is very important that you are aware of the types of position (internal or external) for which you are applying. Only federal employees are eligible for internal announcements. These announcements have a T before the position numbers on usajobs.gov.

Warning: Current federal employees who apply for a position through the external announcement, designated by a D in front of the position numbers on usajobs.gov and are selected for the term-appointment position will lose their career-conditional status and return rights.

Learn more at the Atlanta Human Resources Center website.

U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps

The Commissioned Corps is a uniformed nonmilitary service with a distinct uniform, insignia, titles, pay, benefits and retirement protocols that correspond to those of the uniformed military services. Commissioned Corps officers are employed in 11 disciplines: dentists, dieticians, engineers, health service officers, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, sanitarians, scientists, therapists, and veterinarians. Officers may apply for any position in the PHS agencies. To learn more about the Commissioned Corps, visit http://www.usphs.gov/.

If you are a Commissioned Corps officer, you are encouraged to apply for positions at usajobs.gov.

Using that website will ensure that your application is considered for any open position for which you qualify. Commissioned Corps officers may also contact program offices directly to express interest in positions and programs; under some circumstances, a direct transfer may be available.
