HoSt/VDSCP: Support from Clinical, Research, and Public Health Communities
To better diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases, medical professionals need improved steroid hormone measurements. Clinical, research, and public health communities all support this well-known fact (1). In 2010, the Endocrine Society, in collaboration with CDC’s Clinical Chemistry Branch, conducted a conference to develop recommendations for improving steroid hormone tests (2). The following organizations endorse these recommendations:
- American Association for Clinical Chemistry
- American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists
- Androgen Excess/PCOS Society
- American Society for Bone and Mineral Research
- American Society for Reproductive Medicine
- American Urological Association
- Association of Public Health Laboratories
- The Endocrine Society
- Laboratory Corporation of America
- North American Menopause Society
- Pediatric Endocrine Society (formerly known as Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society)
Following the release of this consensus document, the American Medical Association and the College of American Pathologists also endorsed testosterone testing standardization.
