Type A(H3N2) influenza virus, the first influenza strain
reported
from the United States this season, has been isolated in Houston,
Texas. The virus was identified in a throat specimen collected
October 4, 1985, from a 7-year-old Houston resident who had fever
and
upper respiratory illness. The child's illness was a sporadic
case,
and no further influenza virus isolates have been obtained.
