Notice to Readers
Public Health Leadership Institute
The CDC/University of California Public Health Leadership
Institute is a 1-year program designed to strengthen the U.S.
public health system by enhancing the leadership capacities of
city, county, and state public health officials. Major themes for
the institute are leadership and practice, technologic change,
communications and information, political and social change, and
creativity in public health.
Fifty state and local senior health officials will be selected
to participate in the institute. Each scholar will conduct a
personal management and leadership assessment, use self-study
packets, participate in interactive computer conferences with other
scholars, complete a learning project, and attend an on-site
program to be held March 8-13, 1992, in Santa Cruz, California.
The institute is a collaborative effort between CDC and the
Western Consortium for Public Health, which represents the Schools
of Public Health at two University of California campuses (Los
Angeles and Berkeley) and at San Diego State University. It is
being developed under a cooperative agreement between CDC's Public
Health Practice Program Office and the Western Consortium.
Applications are being accepted from senior health officials
of state and local public health agencies to participate as
scholars. Applications are due October 11, 1991. Scholars will be
selected by the end of October. Additional information and
