In the MMWR Recommendations and Reports, "A Framework for
Assessing the Effectiveness of Disease and Injury Prevention,"
dated March 27, 1992, the last paragraph on page 7 gives a formula
for prevented fraction. In the formula, P1 is the proportion of the
cases that accepts the intervention, PF is the prevented fraction,
and RR is the relative risk. The formula for a population-based
study is PF=P(1-RR), where P is the proportion of the entire
population that accepts the intervention.
