Type 508 Accommodation and the title of the report in the subject line of e-mail. Notice to Readers Transfer of CDC's Subscribers from Paper to Electronic MMWRTo increase availability and timely receipt of the MMWR series, CDC has developed an electronic form of the publication (e-MMWR) using Adobe (R) Acrobat (R) * .pdf files available through CDC's file transfer protocol server (1,2). The e-MMWR is identical in content -- including all text, figures, and tables -- and virtually identical in appearance to the paper format. In addition, the e-MMWR provides options unavailable in the paper format, such as a hypertext feature (i.e., the text can be browsed and searched regardless of the order of topics) and the capability of being captured for use in other formats (i.e., newsletters and slide presentations). The e-MMWR is compatible with DOS, Windows (TM), Macintosh (R), and UNIX (R) operating systems and can be printed on virtually any printer connected to a computer. In the September 1 and 8, 1995, issues of MMWR, CDC will insert a postage-paid card that subscribers should complete and return regarding their access to the e-MMWR. Failure to reply to this inquiry by September 30 may result in termination of the MMWR subscription. On February 1, 1996, CDC will begin transferring many of its MMWR subscribers from the paper to the electronic format. CDC will provide free software and detailed instructions on accessing the e-MMWR. However, MMWR subscribers who are unable to access the e-MMWR may be eligible to continue to receive free paper copy subscriptions from CDC. Other subscribers who wish to retain paper-copy subscriptions will be able to purchase them from the U.S. Government Printing Office (telephone {202} 512-1800) or from Massachusetts Medical Society Publications (telephone {617} 893-3800 or {800} 843-6356). Information about accessing the e-MMWR will be available September 5-30 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (eastern daylight time) from the e-MMWR assistance line, telephone (404) 639-4446. References
