National Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- October 1996
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year,
CDC; other government agencies; and major nonprofit, national
cancer organizations cosponsor this month, which is dedicated to
increasing awareness about the importance of early detection of
breast cancer. Through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer
Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), CDC supports early detection of
breast and cervical cancers through cooperative agreements with
health departments in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, five
territories, and 13 American Indian/Alaskan Native organizations.
Additional information about Breast Cancer Awareness Month and
the NBCCEDP is available from CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention
and Control, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and
Health Promotion, (770) 488-4751, and from the World Wide Web
