Predominant symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting
Causative agent: Unknown
Actions: In response to the outbreak, P&O Cruises and the crew aboard the ship are taking the following actions:
- Increasing cleaning and disinfection procedures according to their outbreak prevention and response plan,
- Collecting stool specimens from passenger and crew gastrointestinal illness cases for testing, and
- Making daily reports of gastrointestinal illness cases to the VSP.
A CDC Vessel Sanitation Program environmental health officer boarded the ship on arrival in Miami on October 23, 2016 to conduct an environmental health assessment and evaluate the outbreak and response activities. Stool specimens were collected and will be shipped to the CDC lab for testing.
