The Health Statistics budget for FY 2016 is $160,397,000, a $5,000,000 increase over FY 2015. The $5,000,000 increase will be directed towards expanding electronic death reporting to provide faster, better-quality data on deaths of public health importance, including deaths from prescription drug overdoses.

This amount also includes funding for administrative and business services through the CDC Working Capital Fund (WCF). For comparison, in FY 2015 about $16,000,000 of the Health Statistics appropriation went to the WCF to pay for services used throughout the year.

The FY 2017 President’s Budget requests $160,397,000 for Health Statistics, level with FY 2016. The proposed budget maintains NCHS’ capacity to support ongoing health and health care surveys and to purchase vital registration data.
