NIOSH Respirator User Notice
Issue Date: August 25, 1995
Subject: CSE Corporation Self-Contained Self-Rescuer (SCSR), Model SR-100 (TC-13F-239), Retrofit and Service Life Updates
After October 1, 1995, all CSE Corporation SR-100 SCSRs (see picture below) produced prior to May 1992 and not properly retrofitted will no longer be considered approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Properly retrofitted SR-100 SCSRs can be identified by color change indicators on both the top and bottom covers. Units that have not been retrofitted will have a color change indicator only on the top cover.
The service life of the SR-100 SCSR has recently been granted an extension of approval from 5 years to 10 years by MSHA and NIOSH. This service life extension is based upon both reliability assessment and data from units used in the field. This extension of approval applies only to those SR-100 SCSRs produced prior to May 1992 and properly retrofitted by CSE Corporation, and those units produced after May 1992.
All SR-100 SCSRs produced prior to May 1992 and not properly retrofitted are no longer approved for use effective October 1, 1995.
