NIOSH is pleased to distribute two new career development opportunities in global health that are available through the NIH Fogarty International Center:

Adverse Impacts of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma on NIOSH Applicants
It is highly likely that Hurricane/Tropical-Storm Harvey and Hurricane Irma will adversely affect some NIOSH-applicants’ and recipients’ ability to submit applications or reports on time. NIOSH will follow the NIH plan for extending application receipt dates and accepting late applications. The most immediate receipt date impacted is for SBIR applications (September 5th) which is covered by the following notice: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-17-106.html. As response and recovery efforts proceed, NIOSH will follow NIH’s approach for our next round of October receipt dates. This page will be updated as further information becomes available. NIOSH announces joint funding opportunity with the Fogarty International Center for GEOHealth Hubs
NIOSH announces a joint funding opportunity with the Fogarty International Center, in partnership with the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for two linked Funding Opportunity Announcements for the Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Program. This announcement was published in the NIH Guide on August 8, 2014.
The overall objective of the GEOHealth program is to support the development of institutions in the Low- or Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) that will serve as regional hubs for collaborative research, data management, training, curriculum and outreach material development, and policy support around high priority local, national, and regional environmental and occupational health threats. Hubs are supported by two coordinated linked awards to 1) a LMIC institution for research and 2) a U.S. institution to coordinate research training. Together all regional hubs supported will form the GEOHealth Network, a platform for coordinated environmental and occupational health research and research training activities.

State Occupational Health and Safety Surveillance Program (U60)
State Occupational Health and Safety Surveillance Program (U60) supports meritorious applications relevant to NIOSH’s occupational health and safety surveillance goals and priorities. Under this funding announcement, NIOSH staff work jointly with awardees in agency partnership roles to assist, guide, or plan work-related OSH surveillance activities. Although specific aims and activities may be shared among awardees and NIOSH, primary roles and responsibilities reside with the awardees. A new version of the paper PHS 398 application form and instructions (revised 8/2012) must be used. Under this funding announcement, NIOSH staff work jointly with awardees in agency partnership roles to assist, coordinate, guide, or plan conference or meeting activities. Although specific tasks or activities are shared among awardees and NIOSH, primary roles and responsibilities reside with the awardees. NIOSH Conference and Scientific Meeting Grants also support meritorious applications relevant to NIOSH’s mission and program priorities. NIOSH staff often attend meetings funded under this announcement. Primary roles and responsibilities reside with the awardees. NIOSH involvement with specific tasks or activities does not reach the level of agency co-sponsorship or a cooperative agreement. NIOSH Conference and Scientific Meeting Announcement
In light of budgetary constraints, NIOSH is postponing the publication of a new program announcement for conferences and scientific meetings (R13) to assess future options and plans for supporting these activities. This delay impacts applicants considering the April 12, 2013 receipt date as a new NIOSH R13 announcement will not be available before then.
NIOSH understands the importance of scientific meetings and conferences, and we are taking appropriate steps to keep the extramural community informed. Once our review and evaluation are completed, and a final decision reached, NIOSH will advise applicants as quickly as possible.

Fogarty Emerging Global Leader Award K43
NIOSH invites applications for training programs that address occupational safety and health training needs of miners in the Western United States
Applicants must address development and delivery of training, provide qualified instructors, evaluate effectiveness and impact, and coordinate with existing training programs, such as those offered by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). NIOSH invites applications for a National Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Agricultural Injury
The Center is expected to exert a transformative influence on childhood agricultural health and safety across the country. The research, prevention, intervention, outreach, education, translation, and evaluation efforts of the Center should focus on improving the safety and health of children and adolescents who are present where agricultural work occurs. Many youth live and work on farms and many farms are family-based operations. Interested applicants can review the funding opportunity announcement.
