Pediatric Offices and Hospitals:

The pediatric patient population needs special attention and care during a public health emergency such as pandemic influenza. Pediatric offices and hospitals are encouraged to plan and be prepared to provide additional medical care for this patient population during a public health emergency. The following resources are intended to help these facilities on how to plan for emergencies.

Healthcare Preparedness Activity Tools

• Coordinating Pediatric Medical Care During an Influenza Pandemic Workbook (1.31 MB/81 pages)
  This CDC workbook is intended to assist hospitals with coordinating medical care for pediatric influenza-like illness within their communities. This tool can be adapted for use during pandemic spread of a novel influenza virus.
• Pandemic Influenza Pediatric Office Plan Template (287 KB/32 pages) (Word version)
  This planning tool was created by CDC to assist pediatric medical offices that have no pandemic influenza plan in place, but may experience an increase in patient calls/visits or workload due to pandemic influenza. This tool can also be adapted for use during pandemic spread of a novel respiratory virus and a planning tool for future pandemic respiratory events.
• Pediatric Stakeholders Meeting – Communications Tool
  CDC developed this tool to provide a suggested approach on how to effectively communicate pediatric-related information on pandemic influenza at the community level.

  This plan created by the Mississippi Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics addresses the inadequacy of existing planning in addressing the unique needs of children and the need for individual physicians to develop or revise their own disaster plans.
