CDC’s Public Health Preparedness Capabilities: National Standards for State and Local Planning is a guide that state and local jurisdictions can use to better organize their work, plan their priorities, and decide which capabilities they have the resources to build or sustain. The capabilities also help ensure that federal preparedness funds are directed to priority areas within individual jurisdictions.

The Public Health Preparedness and Response National Snapshot 2017 demonstrates how federal investments enhance our nation’s ability to respond to public health threats and emergencies. It is our most recent annual report where we present activities that occurred during 2015 and 2016. We spotlight select examples of our work that help inform our actions and investments going forward.

The American Journal of Public Health supplement titled The Evolution of Public Health Emergency Management from Preparedness to Response and Recovery (Volume 107:S5) advances the scientific and programmatic discourse on public health preparedness as a discipline by bringing to view innovative and effective evidence, strategies, policies, and practices featuring competencies in CDC’s 15 public health preparedness capabilities.
