In the summer of 2013, an outbreak associated with eating shellfish from several Atlantic Coast harvest areas affected people in 13 states.
Most vibriosis cases reported to CDC are not reported as part of an outbreak, and some occur as part of a small local outbreak. However, larger outbreaks, sometimes involving multiple states, can occur.
